Overall Carb Heights |
Here's some dimensions that may help you decided which carb to use, or if a particular carb (including the adaptor, optional spacer, and air cleaner or carb hat) will fit under your hood.
Note: Overall heights are approximate and may vary depending on gasket thickness, number of gaskets, the height of the wing nut (if applicable), etc.
For example,
the carb hat uses a flush mounted screw, so no additional height is required for a wing nut.
Note: While I don't have all of the dimensions, I thought I'd post what I have. Please send us an email if you can provide any of the missing dimension, or anything you'd like to see added.

MODIFIED AIR CLEANER BASE PLATE |
Note: If you are using a 9" Round Chrome Air Cleaner, which is intended for use on 2V/4V carbs, you can modify the air cleaner base plate by trimming a 1/2"-3/4" off the bottom flange (see photos below), which gives you a little extra hood clearance. The same
thing applies if you are using our Alloy Oval Air Cleaner, however the flange needs to be milled off by a machine shop, rather than trimming if off with a pair of tin snips. We're not sure if this will work on all 1V carbs, but it does work on the Autolite 1100, our Universal 1V Carb, and Weber 2V carbs. I don't think it will work on the Carter carbs, due to the placement of the choke cap, but I haven't tried it yet. While you can trim off the entire flange on the 9" round air cleaner, we recommend leaving a little (1/4") to maintain ridgidity in the base.
