Aluminized & Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems

Our NEW Aluminized and Stainless steel exhaust kits include everything you'll need to fabricate your exhaust system. Available in single or dual out, these kits are designed to bolt right up to our long tube headers, with little or no cutting. We offer the kits in several sizes (diameters) and with various components, allowing you to taylor the system to your specific needs and/or application. While our kits were designed to fit early Mustangs (65-69), they will fit Falcons, Fairlanes, and Marvericks. However, you might need to do a little cutting and fabrication. The kits are offered in Aluminized and Stainless steel. Every kit is custom built, then drop-shipped directly from the manufacturer. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. International orders may take 8-10 weeks, and the shipping needs to be quoted.

Nothing looks better or lasts longer than Stainless steel. Stainless steel exhaust systems don't rust, therefore they offer superior corrosion resistance, durability, and appearance. Stainless steel is very easy to clean and maintain, and can be polished to a brilliant shine. If it every looses it's luster, the finish can be restored at any time with a little elbow grease and a good polishing compound. The only drawback to stainless steel is the cost, which can be 30% to 70% higher than Aluminized steel. On the other hand, Aluminized steel is affordably priced and, while it may not be as good as Stainless, it is still far superior to the stock carbon steel exhaust systems that came on our classic cars. Aluminized steel offers improved corrosion resistance and durability, a clean appearance, and low maintenance, making it the number one choice of inline enthusiast. With typical usage and care, it will look good for many years to come.

Please see our tech article "Header and Exhaust Maintenance" for more information.

Classic Inlines is the first, and only, company to offer aftermarket performance exhaust kits, which are designed to work with our dual outlet headers. Our performance exhaust kits come with the "Impostor" turbo style mufflers, or the new reproduction "Arvinode" K-Code mufflers. Or you can purchase a starter kit, which allows you to use any muffler you choose.

The low-restriction "IMPOSTOR" mufflers, look and fit like your original mufflers, but are designed and built for high flowing exhaust systems. Made from Aluminized or Stainless steel, they increase flow 20-30% over standard OE type mufflers and offer a deeper, more aggressive exhaust note.

The "ARVINODE" mufflers (or resonators) were originally produced by Arvin, and offered on High-Performance 289ci "K" Code Mustangs, built from October 1964 through March 1965. The "Arvinode High Performance Exhaust System" does not utilize conventional mufflers; instead the exhaust note is “tuned” by combining the effects of resonance tubes in the front “mufflers” along with conventional resonators that are integrated into the tailpipes. This system offers a unique sound that is low and aggressive, and very loud. However, it also improves peak torque and horsepower, over all other factory exhaust systems.

Manufactured by Waldron's Antique Exhaust, the reproduction Arvinode High Performance Exhaust System is made from aluminized steel to maintain the proper appearance. All outer dimensions are identical to the original design, however modern materials and technology allowed improvements to the tubing, mufflers, and resonators, for longer life and improved performance. Yet the new system maintains the look, fit, and sound of the original system.

We'd like to thank Joe Tonietto, owner of Waldron's Antique Exhaust, for agreeing to work with us and for taking his time to design and build these high performance six-cylinder exhaust kits, which are offered exclusively through Classic Inlines. We'd also like to thank Doug Leach (known as Mustang_Geezer on the Fordsix forum), who allowed us to use his 66 Mustang coupe for the development and installation of the first prototype kit. Without his cooperation and time, this project would have never gotten off the drawing table. Doug is currently testing various configurations of the exhaust kits, and we greatly appreciate his opinion and suggestions.

Sizing up Your Exhaust System

When selecting your exhaust kit, or components, it's critical to size them appropriately. Selecting a system that is to small, will restrict air flow at high rpm's and limit your top end power. Selecting a system that is to large, reduces back-pressure, which decreases low end torque. We recommend following the chart below, as closely as possible. For example; if your motor is making 225 HP at the rear wheels, you'll need a 2.5" single, or a 2.0" dual. Or if you have dual out headers on an otherwise stock motor (95HP), we'd recommend installing a Y-pipe and using either 1.75" or 2.0" single exhaust, depending on future plans.

Rule of Thumb for Sizing Your Exhaust System
Pipe Diameter
Single Exhaust
Dual Exhaust
1.75” tubing
50-100 RWHP
150-200 RWHP
2.0”0 tubing
100-150 RWHP
200-250 RWHP
2.25” tubing
150-200 RWHP
250-300 RWHP
2.5”0 tubing
200-250 RWHP
300-350 RWHP

The size and design of the exhaust system also changes the exhaust note. While it is common knowledge that X-pipes improve performance, they also help to quiet down the exhaust, resulting in a mellower, less raspy tone. This is especially true with inline sixes, which was very evident when we installed the proto type Arvinode dual exhaust system. Basically they ran out of time the first day and had to button up the exhaust without the X-pipe. A couple weeks later Doug returned so they could finish up the installation, which included fabricating and installing the X-pipe. It made a huge difference in the exhaust note, especially below 3200 rpm. While it still has a buzzy sound (hornet nest) over 3200 rpm, we believe this is due to the 2.25" pipes, which are to large for this application (according to the chart). However, Doug wanted to use 2.25" pipes as his Mustang is used primarily for drag racing, and unlike most of us, he wasn't really concerned with the sound.
